July 13, 2012
There's a LOT of exciting stuff going on at GuildSomm.com, so we wanted to send you a special update to loop you in!
First of all, please join us in extending a very enthusiastic CONGRATULATIONS to the band of brand new Master Sommeliers who just passed their exams on Thursday:
Chris Miller (Spago, Beverly Hills, CA) Desmond Echavarrie (French Laundry, Yountville, CA) Gillian Ballance (Cavallo Point Lodge, Sausalito, CA) Ian Cauble (Ritz Carlton, Half Moon Bay, CA) John Ragan (Union Square Hospitality Group, New York, NY) Sur Lucero (Oenotri Restaurant, Napa, CA) Yoon Ha (Benu, San Francisco, CA)
We want to congratulate everyone who stepped up to the plate for this most challenging exam. Getting invited to sit for the exam is a huge honor in its own right and shows your commitment and dedication to your craft and career.
NEW Feature:
"It’s always good to question what we are taught," says scientist and wine-writer Jamie Goode. In this new piece, "The Visual Assessment of Wine," Jamie examines the science behind site-based evaluations such as color, concentration and viscosity and discusses whether they demonstrate what we think they do.
NEW Master Classes Coming Up:
Australian Regional Classics Master Classes - Australia's regional diversity is almost universally undervalued among US sommeliers. In this series of Master Classes, Wine Australia's Global Trade Education Director Mark Davidson, Matt Stamp MS, Tim Gaiser MS and Andrew McNamara MS will host a tasting of 18 of the country's top wines while exploring the country's unique wine tradition, history and evolution.
Chablis Master Classes - This series will feature a comprehensive tasting and thorough examination, led by Matt Stamp MS, on the different levels of Chablis AOC wines, from Petit Chablis through Grand Cru.
Note: Seating is limited for all events. You must register online in advance!
Thanks for all of your contributions to and support of our professional network. We're very proud of our entire community. See you online soon!
