Hello all,
Someone brought up Le Nez du Vin as an example of a way to improve one's smell and therefore palate (mine is embarrassingly primitive and untrained). I didn't even know what it was, but once I looked it up (it's a wine smell-kit) I thought it could possibly save me much time by reducing, albeit not dramatically, how much I need to practice.
A long-distance runner here. So I'm in no way too lazy to practice or to "work hard" for my CMS Certified, but I'm wondering if anyone here has used a smell kit in your journey? How did you use it? What is the most efficient and instructive way to integrate it into the Certified and Advanced prep? Would a smell kit would be useful at all in improving one's smell and palate.
As is obvious, I'm new to this whole smell-taste thing, so any advice in this regard (in addition to working diligently at it) would be appreciated.
Hi Moe,
I purchased one two years ago and have since left it in storage and kind of forgot about it. It was at the beginning of my wine interest. it is extremely helpful, though, in that it will present you the smells that you normally can't and won't find just anywhere, lees, for example. It is a great tool yet it is not actual compounds like the ones you will find in wine from fermentation. so i'm 50/50 on it usefulness as you can go buy an apple, lemon and green pepper and get the same effect but those won't stay fresh and the kit is always in tact. There is a lot of great reasons to buy one and if you're focused and willing to even blind smell and see if you know the scent, go for it. I would just grab a bottle from the kit and test myself all the time. so it can heighten your sense of smell but since then I have invested in a coravin! any interest or investment in ones improvement in wine is a smart one, in my opinion.
Thanks, Shanna. May I ask if you have a partial or the full 78 jar wine combo?
hey! sorry for lateness. I have the 54!
I may buy it from you. I send you a Connect request to facilitate the exchange of messages, if that's how it works.
