We've added a brand new section to the site: MW Perspectives! Find it here, or under the Expert tab above.
We plan to publish two new essays per month, written by MWs. These are intended to be a resource for those pursuing WSET qualifications and the MW study program—and, of course, anyone interested in the wide variety of topics that will be covered in the essays.
Thanks to our first contributors, Masters of Wine Mary Margaret McCamic MW, Nicholas Paris, MW, and Bree Boskov!
Check it out and let us know what you think! Will this be helpful in your studies? What topics would you like to see covered?
Thanks so much for this! I'm not sure that the info should be hidden under an MW tab though as so much of the information in the essays applies to studies for both the MS and the MW. I mean, I found Kelli's article about phylloxera and the series of articles written by Steve Matthiasson on viticulture to be just as useful for MW studies, and they're found in the general Features section. Maybe there's a way to archive the past and more current Features into sub-topics?
At any rate, I'd love to see some essays about the not so sexy sections of MW theory, i.e. those topics not having to do with viticulture and enology, such as handling and transportation of wine, marketing/branding and general topics in the business of wine.
But this is great, thank you! I'm perplexed why more people in the wine business don't go down the MW path, especially if they are no longer working on the floor of a restaurant. It's a great program, and I couldn't be happier with it so far!
Hi Rachael! I'm so glad you're enthusiastic about this project, and thank you for the great suggestions. We'll keep them in mind as we work with other MWs on new essays.
To your question about putting this in a new section/tab, you're absolutely right that other content on the site applies to your studies, and that these essays will also be useful to those on the CMS track—and those who aren't pursuing formal certification at all. We're not intending to make this the only place for MW-relevant information. But we did want to create something specifically for those on the WSET/MW track, and to highlight this particular style of essay, which differs from our long-form, highly in-depth features article. Additionally, we're always working to make sure your membership feels worthwhile: this is for members only, while the features are free to all.
As for searching, the Explore tab is a great way to search the site by broad topics. We'll be adding the MW essays there, too. For something more specific, search using the bar up top. It will search the section you're in first, then the full site.
