Can anyone link me to article relating to vine training technique and the reasoning behind them. Also an article about types of pruning and the reasoning?
You might be looking for more detailed info, but our viticulture staff training guide is a good place to start for basics.
If you're looking to get geeky, here are three sources I'd recommend:
https://books.google.com/books?id=9hCk1J_5ozIC&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_atb#v=onepage&q&f=false - The Science of Wine on Google Books - older version, take a look at page 84 to start the pruning section. If you like this, highly recommend getting the current edition.
https://mnhardy.umn.edu/sites/mnhardy.umn.edu/files/pruning_training_and_grape_canapy_management.pdf - Great presentation and covers not just wine grapes but all types of grapes. Need to have some basic knowhow but goes into fantastic depth.
http://www.thewalkinggrape.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Types-and-Methods-of-Pruning-and-Training.pdf - If you need to find a definition of a training system and can't seem to find it any other place.
Some info on pruning specifically, I hope this helps
"General Viticulture" AJ Winkler .Slightly dated but very informative
