Posted this the other day on my Instagram, but thought it was worth placing here as well. This is a beautiful quote from RLS from his book The Silverado Squatters. Stevenson wrote this while honeymooning in Napa Valley in the early 1880s. This was a tense and emotional time for lovers of French wine, as much of the country was already under siege by phylloxera, but the "cure" had yet to be announced.
That had to be more depressing (at that moment) than Prohibition ever was.
Right? Imagine if someone told you right now that in a few years, France would no longer be producing wine...
