Washam having a crack at natural wine zealots ... Brilliant stuff.
"For irony’s sake, I put ice in it." I don't know if I should laugh or cry. Not every punch line hits, but I'm glad he's still poking fun at the wine business.
Read this right after this week's NYT magazine article on climate change and a quick snapshot of California news detailing all of the current fires. Couldn't crack a smile as it's all a little too real. I guess sometimes the only rational thing to do is laugh in the face of adversity...
Kind of nice to have a blunt reminder that this should all be rooted in fun somewhere. Granted, it can be about as subtle as knocking on a door with a wrecking ball
We had a Natural Wine importer come to our shop several months ago and proceed to tell us how, after discovering natural wines on his trip to France, he came home and immediately sold everything in his cellar because he realized how "terrible" they were. I love this article, but I have no doubt there are plenty of people who would throw their weight behind this.
I also can not wait to find an opportunity to tell a customer about the "Eugenol Kneels" when the 17's release.
Can't wait until five years from now when they go into their cellar full of natural wine and find out that "tastes great at the winery" and "tastes great after crossing the Atlantic and being cellared" are not remotely the same with natural wine.
So funny. Also kinda sorta put an ice cube (just one!) in a natural skin contact Grillo from Sicily earliertonight hoping it would mitigate mild brett. eek. it ended up being tasty but that was probably just the vigorous decant I gave the bottle after the ice incident...
