I am taking a mother daughter trip in May to Paso Robles. We both have never been to the area and are thrilled to go. We are looking for some suggestions on great wineries to visit that may offer special tours, restaurants to try, other things we can’t miss in the area, etc. We will for sure be visiting Tablas Creek but I am not sure past that. We should have about three days if that helps you make some suggestions. Thank you!!
I'd be happy to host you at JUSTIN, if you you'd like to visit. Send me a message with your contact info and when you'd like to come out and I'll set that up.
If you are going to Tablas Creek you should also check out Halter Ranch as well as Thatcher, they are on the way! Also you have to go by TinCity between Templeton and Paso Robles.
West Paso is making the most waves for me. The Adelaida District AVA (where Tablas Creek is located in) is chock full of quality focused wineries making incredible examples of many different grape varieties. Check out Tablas Creek for sure, but also hit Daou which is making stellar Cabernet Sauvignon, Epoch for really tasty southern rhone style wines, but I think the producer that wowed me the most was Alta Colina which in my opinion is growing the best Syrah in Paso Robles.
The best made wine: Denner it is on an appointment only basis but it is worth every effort to get there! Ditchdigger and a young winemaker plus an awesome view. Epoch is another one not to miss or try to get to Linne Calodo. There is this new BBQ place hidden away in an alley Jeffry's, husband and wife team, excellent grill masters! Have fun!
I recommend Tin City, in the south part of town. It is an industrial park with 20 or so tasting rooms (all small producers) , a brewery, and ice cream shop. I personally like Aaron Wines (try their single vineyard SLO Pinot Noirs, Viognier, and Riesling) and Sans Liege (which does excellent Rhone styles).
Grey Wolf/Barton is just west of PR and has a cantina behind their tasting room that makes great sandwiches and BBQ. It is a great place for lunch.
For general sight-seeing, Morro Bay and Hearst Castle are worth checking out. Have fun!
Check out Lone Madrone. Tablas Creek's head wine maker's personal project just down the road from Tablas and Halter
Did not know that. Thank you!
Wow these are all awesome suggestions. Thank you so much!
Thank you! I love some great BBQ. Can’t wait to check your suggestions out!
Thank you! Love your suggestions and I am adding them to our list!
Tincity is a must see now! I hadn’t heard of it before but looked it up and it looks great. Thank you!
Thank you Jim! I will email you this week to get set up!
You should also check out Giornata, Turley and Adelaide
I 100% agree with this. I used to live in the area and Tin City is one of my favorite wine tasting spots because the tasting rooms are all within walking distance of each other. You should definitely stop by Field Recordings, one of my favorites!
Also if you are on your way to Hearst Castle check out Harmony cellars! Good wine with great views.
2nd the suggestions of Epoch and Tin City, and the view from Daou can't be missed.
