Hey friends! I’m visiting TX in June and have a day or two to explore. What wineries around the Lampasas/Austin/Fredricksburg areas do you recommend?
Hilmy, Lewis Cellars, Calais, William Chris, Kuhlman Cellars
Eat at Salt Lick and bring your own beer.
This I know! I’m originally from TX, I just haven’t been to Hill Country in awhile.
Becker Vineyards, Inwood Estates and Pedernales are the first few that come to mind for me. Many wineries are just in it for the tourism dollars. These three strive for quality and it shows. Inwood has an especially interesting story. If you have the chance to meet Dan Gatlin the owner, he will share some amazing stories. The other winery I would recommend is McPhearson but it is in the Pan Handle North. I just went to Comal Creek and they are doing some interesting stuff but it is a drive from Fritz Town.
I'm presenting wines from the following wineries in November. Happy to have feedback if you taste any of them. Cheers!
Lewis has a great viognier and a nice chenin.
Calais and Inwood have fantastic wines. Pedernales wines are very good and a great view. Hilmy and Kuhlman Cellars are also very enjoyable. Bryan's on 290 in Johnson's city is an incredible meal as is Vaudeville and Otto's in Fredricksburg.
Some great suggestions on here already. I would add one more, Southold Farms and Cellars. Really fantastic people, former Long Island winemakers that relocated here to the Hill Country area. They are making very interesting, idiosyncratic and natural wines. The property is beautiful as well
Denise Clarke and Jason Hisaw may have some suggestions!
Be sure to stop at VISTA Brewery in Driftwood, TX. As well Fall Creek Vineyards, the 'First Family of Texas Wine, the AMAZING Auler's is worth a stop. Lewis - Bending Branch - Hilmy, as per previous suggestions are personal favorites. Also, Stinson Distillery (west north on FM 150 towards Dripping Springs) is a hidden gem and serve a WICKED Texas Brandy Old Fashioned. Vinovium Partners in Johnson City has a killer draft wine program in their tasting room.
@ Krane: hey brother, do not forget that NTP3 is also in TX!
NTP3- I am so sorry!
Definitely hit up William Chris.
