Im just starting to embark on my MS preparation. Myself and a few others pursuing the MS, reside in a smaller market without an MS in Arizona.
With hindsight being 20/20, I’d love to pose the question... what advice would/can you give in pursuing the MS examination. If you could do it all over again and have the knowledge you have now, would you have done anything differently? If so what, if not, what worked.
Thank you in advance for your words of empowerment.
Troy! So happy for you to pass Advanced this year! Thanks for being a friend & role model along the way. Know you have probably read this article already, but Michael Meagher posted this a few years ago & still believe it applies today. Looking forward to that theory session tomorrow!

thank you my friend!
It's a good one. I read that every few months, not so much for advice, but just to keep my spirits up and know there is a path to success, even if you live in a small town.
It's about the journey, not the outcome. Strengthen the community, and it will in turn bring you strength. There are no failures, only not passing this time.
And know that at any time, through no fault of your own, and with no burden to bear proof your credential can be taken away as quickly as it was bestowed.
Thank you Jon. We’re definitely enjoying the journey, one day at a time. It’s been amazing how acquaintances become friends and friends become family through this entire process. Appreciate your time and thoughts.
When you walk in the room a Master Sommelier, only there to prove your ability, then you know you've prepared enough. I knew the first time, I was still an Advanced Somm, who was being judged by masters. I was not part of their community yet. When I created the tasting and study group in Vegas, when I made the schedules for tasting and study sessions and held people accountable for showing up or not, when I stuck to my own study goals and developed my program of wines to support my education. Only then was I actually embodying a Master, and this is what you need to do. Be a Master When you walk in the room. This comes with all of the above, but these transform you. And when you've done all of this, you will know you've done the work.
You’re not kidding about that second part.
