Piggy backing upon Kelli White's fantastic article on Merlot, I'm curious which California Merlot is your favorite?
Duckhorn, Pride, Shafer, Frog's Leap, and Markham (esp for the price point) are all fantastic in my opinion.
In its youth, Duckhorn. Frogs Leap with serious age on it is a whole different kind of experience. Both are damn good Merlot!
Matthiasson 'Red Hen' is always super expressive. I also dig what Sinskey does with the varietal. Mayacamas is super consistent and delicious.
Can't forget about 'Three Palms' with some age on it from Duckhorn.
Trefethan makes a very solid Merlot for less than $20 wholesale
Markham Merot is excellent and the price point is good. I know it’s trashy but love, love Toasted Head Merlot and Estancia are good daily drinkers. Duckhorn is exceptional. Been awhile since I’ve tasted it but Nickel & Nickel seemed to stand out
Also Whitehall Lane stands out
Keenan and Paloma, both from Spring mountain
I agree with you on all fronts, and you're right about nickle and nickle
Hunt and Harvest, Sinskey
Double T by Trefethan was one of my first loves to sell on the floor
Keenan, Trefethan, Freemark Abbey
Guys what's about Long Meadow Ranch and Seavey? Soooo good, always.
Also have a lot of love in my heart for Twomey, which is consistently delicious.
Ridge for sure. Keenan too.
