I've been working on an MW dissertation on Washington State Syrah during which I got to taste quite a few of these wines and talked to some producers. I also sent out a survey to my wine trade contacts which is part of the dissertation process. (And thank you to those of you who have already responded.)
I can't elaborate on the results before my dissertation is submitted but I can say that there was great support for the well-made Washington Syrah from the trade and the press members that I have surveyed. Personally, I was also impressed well beyond expectations by some of the wines that I've tasted during this research.
At the moment, there are more than enough responses to my trade survey to submit a dissertation but by now I got really vested in the project and would love to hear the opinions of more and more members of the community, especially the opinions of those who are particularly interested in Syrah and Washington Syrah.
If you sell wine in any capacity, if you consult or write about wine, if you are a wine educator or work in wine PR, it would be great to have your input for this research. The more people there are the more reliable the results.
The survey takes about 15-20 minutes if you sell wine, and about 10 minutes if you don't. So it is not particularly short but it is very easy to go through as you would only need to click on the answers rather than typing elaborate responses.
So if you can fill it out, please send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will send you the link to the survey.
