SHOULD BEAUJOLAIS GO GRAND CRU? – Jean Bourjade, managing director of Inter Beaujolais, seeks Grand and Premier Cru quality designations for the region. But would such laws increase quality and reputation? Or just price? [Wine Spectator]
THREE NEW MASTERS OF WINE – Congratulations to Eric Hemer MS, the fourth in the world to gain both MW and MS qualifications! Congratulations also to brand new Masters of Wine Alison Eisermann Ctercteko and Adam Lapierre. [The Drinks Business]
KJ ENTERS WILLAMETTE – Jackson Family Wines, producer of Kendall-Jackson and La Crema labels, has branched out of California for the first time and purchased vineyards in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. [Decanter]
BASSET MS MW PAIRS WINE WITH CANNES – Which is better: Gerard Basset MS MW calling “the delicious” Ryan Gosling a “firm” Cahors, or the hostess’s reaction to it? Other Cannes Film Festival stars get French wine pairings, too. [Broadcast Exchange]
PIMM’S “FRIENDSHIP BUS” TOURS GREECE – Greece is the first European country outside the UK to market Pimm’s?! Whatever has been in their cups? Also, there’s a hop-on/hop-off “friendship bus” making the rounds, fully stocked. Want. [The Drinks Business]
DERENONCOURT’S EN PRIMEUR “LITTLE DOLLS” – Wine consultant Stephen Derenoncourt admits (along with plenty others) that he makes a completely different wine (“some little dolls”) to show at primeurs week. Criticism of the Bordeaux futures tastings is reaching a boiling point. [The Drinks Business]

GALLONI’S VINOUS LAUNCH – After his controversial departure from The Wine Advocate earlier this year, Galloni’s new review/multimedia site is live. You get about ten free page views before the pay wall goes up. [Vinous Media]
YOUR thoughts?- Would you like to see Beaujolais Grand and Premier Crus? And what do you think would be the repercussions for the region and the market?
- What French wines would you pair with this year's stars of the premier film festival in France?
- Would you not hop on that Pimm's party bus for a few spins around the block??
- How many more years will Bordeaux offer primeur tastings?
- Craft beer is too hoppy: Discuss.
- Will Galloni's new site be relevant in the new age of wine reviews/writing/blogging?
I'm loving the video of MS Basset picking wines based upon the actor's perceived styles! It's a fun and different approach! This might be useful to me in retail for the oscars next winter.
As much as I would love to see the Beaujolais be able to put Crus on their labels or "rightfully" put their site on a pedestal. I am not sure this would correlate with increased quality. Wouldn't those already making great wine continue to do so, and those left out of the better designations have almost less motivation?
Let the hoppy beer backlash begin!!! Death to Pliny The Elder, long live the "Champagne of Beers"!
Congrats to Eric Hemer, that is amazing.
Long live moderatly hopped beers, Orval anyone?
Let me third the death of over-hopped beers. I don't my beer to taste like the lift 9 in Telluride smells.... I have often wondered why hasn't the US seen a "real Ale" movement like the UK?
For me the real story here is Jackson buying in Oregon. I have already heard that grape prices have shot up. I think this might signal the start of a lot of W.V. pinots to go up in price (well the ones that have not anyhow).
