This foundational course provides broad-based wine training. It is designed for the wine enthusiast and those in entry-level food and beverage positions within the larger scope of the hospitality industry. Upon successful completion of Level I, participants will have an understanding of the important contributors and events in the evolution and development of the wine industry, knowledge of the main categories and styles of wines, recognition of the 30 key grape varietals and understanding to complete the four-step tasting technique used to assess and evaluate wine. Also covered are the practical aspects of food and wine parings, storage techniques and the basics of wine service.
Six weeks of 25 total hours of hands-on instruction and assessment. Upon successful completion of the requirements in this course, the participant will be awarded the Kendall College Wine Apprentice Certification.
