for the 3rd annual Sommelier
In the pursuit of professional development, knowledge and education,
has created an opportunity to hone your sommelier skills in the midst of peers, Master Sommeliers and industry leaders. The format incorporates service demonstrations and practicals, blind tasting exercises, lectures and seminars, as well as comparative tastings of wines, spirits, and other beverages.
Each day will have several tasting flights of 6 wines and lectures, as well as service stations. The schedule will stagger 'in' times for each station. Comparative tasting and calibration stations are also available throughout the day. Limited individual 6 wine flights and service exercise will be available by signups each morning. The curriculum is designed to mirror standards set by the Court of Master Sommeliers.
is inclusive of all skill, ability and certification levels. The curriculum is designed to develop individuals within their skill set and build strong foundations for learning. Emphasis on education, learning, and getting stronger / better / faster at all levels. However, please do arrive with a working knowledge of the CMS tasting grid and expect to actively participate in discussions, tastings and service practicals with peers and mentors. We do recommend getting in some reps and practice sessions to fortify your confidence, but, it is not required.
The enrollment and participation fee is applied directly to the supplies, wine and equipment required to facilitate this event. City Winery has donated the space for the duration of the
, and, Second City Sommeliers tasting group members are donating their time to staff the event. Any additional funds are rolled into the group dinner or BYO wines.
