At Compass Rose and Maydan restaurants, we have a passion for seeking out and spotlighting wine producers from lesser known regions of the world - sharing their stories and wine as a mechanism for economic development in parts of the world that need it most.
Over the years of creating unique wine lists, Compass Rose and Maydan have learned the importance of buying wine responsibly. Our owners and staff have traveled the world (no, really) to find vineyards and winemakers who transcend borders and share a common bond. To them, making wine, and trusting us to market and sell it, is about so much more than money. It’s about having their stories shared with you. It’s about helping their wineries find the platform they deserve. It’s about helping businesses with so much to offer grow and thrive. It’s about directly impacting the growth and economic development in their communities. To help share our mission, we’ve partnered with Borderless Wines to create a festival dedicated to that ethos: a borderless world of wine.
Join us on Sunday, April 14th as we explore the wines that are often lost in translation and celebrate the efforts of those winemakers who work tirelessly to grow, make an impact and create a legacy.
who: Compass Rose, Maydan & Borderless Wines.
what: A day-long celebration of wine, their makers, and their sellers! Join us first at Maydan for a discussion with industry professions committed to highlighting winemakers from regions off the beaten path - immediately followed by tasting what they produce in our wine marketplace. You’ll have the opportunity to interact with our partners, and learn about their efforts in taking consumers away from what they know about wine. Later, at Compass Rose, we’ll end the day with a deep-dive discussion into in the world of Latin American wines, with a wine list curated by our wine director Maria Bastasch, and a menu from our chef’s Gerald Addison and Chris Morgan.
where: we'll start our journey at Maydan and end we started it all - Compass Rose.
when: Sunday, April 14th, from 12pm to 7pm.
questions? thoughts? talk to us! email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
12pm - 1pm: “vino la revolution! a primer for activist wine drinkers”. A panel discussion with Rose Previte (Co-Owner of Compass Rose & Maydan), Maria Bastasch (Director of Wine + Experience at Compass Rose & Maydan), Peter Weltman (Founder, Borderless Wine) and Miriam Zouzounis (Terra Sancta West, Activist). Moderated by Alex Marquardt (CNN)
1pm - 3pm: Our socially conscious vendors (our full list of partners is featured below!) will convene in our Maydan Marketplace to showcase their wines and provide tastings. Light fare will be offered.
4pm - 7pm: To end the day, you’ll be guided to Compass Rose, for a gathering with food and wine inspired by our recent trip to Mexico. Chef’s Gerald and Chris will be dishing out Mexican street food goodness (bugs can be snacks? who knew!) while our wine director, Maria Bastasch, has prepared a selection of wines (featuring Mexican and Bolivian wines) that we tucked in our backpacks to bring back to share with you.
Our partner - Borderless Wine - will be leading conversations and raising a glass to those they work with around the world who believe in the power of wine to change lives.
