Embrace DKDC (don't know don't care)
When you don't have an exam breathing down your neck make sure to enjoy going down rabbit holes and reading excellent articles here and on Jancis Robinson's website among many others.
Try to find a study group that will correct you when you start getting in the weeds, it's a lot easier to see when someone else is doing it
I recommend finding some other candidates who are on the same timeframe and path as you and studying with them via Skype once or twice a week for an hour or and a hour and a half at a time.
I attempted the exam in November last year and gave myself a year to study for it... it was tough, but not impossible --- you need to put in the work, but I would concentrate on classics, don't worry about things that don't have meaning in this day and age. Best of luck
