The Team Behind GuildSomm

Geoff Kruth, MS

President

Geoff brings vitality, passion, and extensive knowledge to his role as President of Guildsomm.com and one about 200 people worldwide to achieve the distinction of Master Sommelier. He graduated from Sonoma State University with bachelors degrees in Computer Science and Music and moved to Silicon Valley to pursue a career in the tech industry but a blossoming wine hobby became an obsession that lead to his enrollment in the French Culinary Institute's Classic Culinary Arts program in New York. He worked as Sommelier for Manhattan’s Balthazar Group and then Wine Director of The Farmhouse in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley. He finally made use of that Computer Science degree in 2008 in creating the GuildSomm website.

Matt Stamp, MS

Director of Education

Matt Stamp learned the wine and restaurant trade at V. Mertz Restaurant, the family business and a local fine-dining institution in Omaha, NE. After completing the CMS Advanced Exam in 2008 as a best-in-class Rudd Scholar, Matt departed Nebraska for wine country in California to intensify his study for the rigorous Master Sommelier Diploma. Matt has worked as a Sommelier at the Farmhouse in Russian River Valley and The French Laundry before joining the Guild of Sommeliers as Education Director in 2011. Matt is responsible for developing and maintaining the Guild’s online content and educational materials, and speaks at events across the country. He is a regular contributor to Decanter Magazine and was selected as one of Wine Enthusiast magazine’s “Top 40 Under 40” in 2013. Although he has left the life of a working floor sommelier behind, Matt hopes to have a great impact on the next generation of sommeliers through education and mentorship.

Christine Sayre

Chief Financial Officer and Membership Renewal

Christine graduated from Chico State University with a bachelors degree in Business Administration with an option in Accounting. Later she earned her Masters of Science in Computer Information Systems from the University of Phoenix. She was a co-founder of a software company and implemented business intelligence and data warehouse solutions for small organizations and fortune 500 companies. Christine married into the wine business, where she learned about wine and production winemaking from her husband and father-in-law. Christine is responsible for all finances, scholarships, membership management, GuildSomm store and educational event organization.

Stacy Ladenburger

Community Manager

After graduating with degrees in Rhetoric, Spanish and Gender Studies, Stacy honed her skills in the nonprofit sector and her creativity through a food blog she launched on the side. Upon moving to the Bay Area from Michigan in 2012, she made her way into the food world, first assisting a cookbook author, then managing customer service at the grocery startup Good Eggs. Wine had first sparked Stacy's imagination during a college semester in Spain, where bottles cluttered the table during long, noisy meals with her neighbors. Years later, that interest was invigorated through a stint at Oakland's Ordinaire Wine Bar. Stacy is captivated by the universal, communal nature of eating and drinking, and she is thrilled to combine her skills and passion in support of the GuildSomm community.
