This is the best article I have read in a long time. Memorizing which systems are used and where has always been a tedious task for me, putting everything in context has made all the difference. Really fascinating just how much an effect pruning has on the final product. Also, the photographs were very helpful. I would love to see the addition of photographs from pruning through harvest. Thank you for the information!

I'll definitely try to record the key stages of a vine for the season. In the meantime, check out this YouTube video that Garrett Buckland (my partner in our consulting company) made--he mounted a camera in the Ryan's vineyard (where I get the SB for my white wine), and made a time lapse video of an entire year. Thank you for a thoughtful and informative piece. This is a great follow up for me to this same information you shared with Sur, myself and others out in your vineyard last year. I am definitely looking forward to the next write up.

Would it be possible to perhaps pick one vine in your own backyard (vineyard) and take a photo of it through all the phases that you will be discussing? For those that don't live in a production area I think that would be very useful to watch the progression of the season and what is happening on one specific vine from pruning through harvest. If that's a pain I would be happy to do that but it would be pics from Harlan.
