That caught my eye as I've never seen a mention to it. In scanning over the most recent pliego, I didn't see anything about it either outside of the single vineyard labeling which is new, but a different beast than single variety. Fully happy to be proven wrong on this as I'm just going by what's in front of me.

I have to assume that people do whatever they want as long as the text is smaller than all the legal elements. Don't know why anyone would really want to shout that they're making a Chard in Rioja anyways, but that's just me.

Keep in mind that while Chardonnay was let in, Cabernet Sauvignon was shown the door but then the mutant Tempranillo Blanco was authorized as well. For such a big DO, they actually have a touch more mobility than others in Spain.
