Very informative article, Caroline! I have had "Welschriesling" in some forgettable blends previously, but while currently in Vienna, I ordered a glass from a nice restaurant the other night and was very pleasantly surprised by the aromas and flavors. With a few years of age on it, it presented a nice combination of freshness with the hint of some tertiary notes, good body and struck me as a wonderful alternative to oaked Chardonnay for those looking for a "more serious" white but without the oakiness and neutrality that reasonably priced Chardonnay can sometimes present. I appreciate this article which will help me to seek out more wines from this grape with many names and discover its potential.

Nicely done. Good information on a burgeoning area and misunderstood varietals. Now if we could only find more than a thimble full of examples to try.
