To my understanding, they still released their Charta wines (with the symbol of the arches, etc.) while maintaining the Erste Gewachs terminology as their top "grand cru" wine. In 2021, it was decided that with the 2018 vintage Erste Gewachs would be changed to Rheingau Grosses Gewachs to bring them into alignment with other regions. It seems like every two years there are changes to either German Wine Law or the VDP, so it's hard to keep up, but this is my current understanding.

Click here for the announcement regarding the change to Rheingau Grosses Gewachs

RE: Understanding the Modern German Wine Landscape

Question? Is Charta organization now gone in the Rheingau?
