Maybe I'm missing the point, but it seems like phylloxera was massively devastating, but France's harsh trade policies and punitive measures towards countries it had greatly relied on to rebound from the disaster....was almost more devastating to certain countries. What if we never had Rioja? What if Algeria is secretly a goldmine for wine? Also Kelli, you're a master of words. Thank you, you rock!

This article makes the mention of Phylloxera in most books seem like paragraphs from a Primer. This is wonderful and hats off to the research, work, and writing skill it took to break down such a surprisingly complex subject.
