Bolivia is a small producer, with only about 3000 hectares planted, with much of it going to the production of Singani, a high altitude distilled Muscat of Alexandria brandy. However, as winemakers gain recognition for their wines abroad, exports are becoming more and more a reality. Already Bolivian wine has made it into the European Union, China and the United States. For the time being, production size will be one of the biggest challenges, but with the potential to diversify and focus on the unique high altitude terroir in the Northernmost wine producing regions of South America, I know that plantings, production and exports will grow.

Sharp fellow that was hard not to respect in terms of knowledge and ability.

I think one of the most interesting bits in this is the comment on the swing away from "natural" wine. We're seeing it in Spain as well given that too many sommeliers are tired of the fail rate on the wines and the selling point for normal consumers just isn't there. I realize that people will point to the two or three natbars in Barcelona as specious proof of a larger trend but overall, it's very, very niche and the focus on quality artisan producers is much more important.

RE: Spotlight: Detroit

The downtown area is going to find great growth with the opening of the new Pistons/Red Wings arena opening this upcoming season (Little Caesars Arena, kill me with that name). Further, the wine scene is Northern Michigan is growing in both production and quality. I can't complain about the late harvest Rieslings from Traverse City

L'Osteria del Becco in Polancito has 15,000btls in a 2-story, all glass (floors, ceilings, walls), multi-room cellar of mostly Piedmont with some very cool Tuscany and Veneto as well. The reason why Spanish and Italian wines do so well is because of the typical Mexican ridiculous taxing structure that makes it easy and cheap to direct import ex-chateau from those countries as opposed to truck it in from Baja. The Intercontinental in Polanco has the largest cellar in the Americas. I won't say I haven't seen crazier bottlings in other, much smaller cellars, but the brick-lined "cave" under the hotel has to be an (American) football field long, packed floor to about 5ft high. Great International restaurant culture of discipline and service, and they do well when the government is laissez-faire.

I am a California sales manager for a great small boutique wine distributor but I am wanting to move my family back to Austin. Where would I look first for Wine jobs in sales and marketing in Austin please? I am CMS Certified and half French. Any distributors that are heavy on French wines that I should talk too?

Any help would be appreciated.
