Well done as always, Tom. Thank you! You didn’t mention the claim that Pérignon learned how to make sparkling wine while on a visit to the Saint-Hilaire abbey near Limoux and his subsequent collaboration with Don Thiery Ruinart to further refine the process. I would be interested to read any comments you might have on this oft-referenced claim, especially by the producers of Limoux.

As of very recent I need to replace my encyclopedia. however after searching on the internet they price from $300-$1200. Anyone know where I can purchase one for a tad bit less? Thanks.

Are there no longer any copies available? It appears that the only books available for sale are from scalpers charging anywhere from 6 to 10 times retail price.

Tom- your efforts in maintaining a book of this caliber are truly mind-blowing and so greatly appreciated. Your book really makes the learning process fun and gives me a sense like I'm actually traveling to the region I'm reading about. will this amazing book every be published as an ebook?? i bought this book after is was released :) last year id still purchase an ebook version when i travel with my ipad!!! A lot of great wine books arent available as an ebook...

I eagerly awaited my 5th edition, and after a snafu with Amazon, finally received it a month late. Well worth the wait, but I must say that some of the technical information in it is not the same as what is found on this site's compendium. I believe this stems from the differences in posted laws on the INAO site, and the newer legislations found on the "legi-france" site that was used to create many files in the compendium.

I also have to say that I love your maps. They are my absolute favorite, and I've traced almost all of them onto another sheet of paper where I add all my relevant technical information for the region.

Unfortunately I have to also say that I've already ripped the cover. It travels with me back and forth to work (even though I have 2 "old" editions there), and i even read it on the subway despite its heft.

Thank you Thank you Thank you for this amazing tome. I just wish you made more than $.50/hour!! Seems like you deserve a raise.

Tom, thanks so much for your contributions here and in print. I want to add to the prase of your work. When my copy arrives I will have every edition on my shelf, the others all well worn. Looking forward to hopefully seeing the Wine Report again as well.

I agree with Megan, Daniel and Michael S; a map app or the possibility of Google Wine Maps would be an extremely valuable education tool.

Thanks for the great article. I'm expecting my newest copy to arrive tomorrow and I can't wait to read through it. I'd also be interested in iPad map apps, perhaps an interactive Sotheby's Wine Encyclopedia app, or ebook version for iPad. Like Megan, I also miss the wine report. Is there a chance of seeing it again, perhaps as an electronic version?

Tom, my copy arrived this week and will join the 4 other past copies (looking a little worse for wear) as my favoirte reference book. I really miss your annual Wine Report is there any chance that this may come back? Thank you so much for dedicating years to these books we really appreciate it. Best regards.
