Regarding the discussion regarding the retiring/subsuming of appellations, other European examples that come to mind would be the appellation-formerly-known-as Cabernet de Saumur AOC and the number of now-geographic-designations/subzones of the Valle d'Aosta DOC that used to be DOCs in their own right. And for those tempted to dig too deep, back in the day Mark Guillaudeu shared his explorations of The Lost Appellation of Néac.

RE: Beaujolais with MW Natasha Hughes

Natasha, Thanks for the informative podcast. I am in Vancouver, BC Market and attended an excellent wines of Beaujolais tasting this fall which really did highlight the diversity and complexity of Beaujolais. We don't have a huge selection here in BC and due to a government strike there was no Beaujolais Nouveau to be had on Nov 20 (I know, I know but Its still interesting to taste each year if only to give my palate a refresh on full carbonic maceration with likely thermovinification) and had to wait a week.... In any case I listened to the podcast yesterday and when shopping for a wine to (As Chris T says) "Intentionally Drink" saw a 2019 Chiroubles from Steeve Charvet. https://www.bcliquorstores.com/product/121135 It is indeed lovely and offers more nuance and complexity than any basic Bourgogne that I have tasted in the same price range ($30 CDN). So I would echo your hope that producers don't abandon the cru despite the challenges you outline in terms of cost of production. Your book is on my queue now, just have to finish a few that I have on the go.

RE: Tasting with Tori Testa

Another great episode, thank you Tori and Chris for reminding me how beautiful those wines are and helping connect a few more dots.
