Spanish Grapes: Tempranillo

Tempranillo is Spain's best-known and most prolific red grape. Responsible for many of Iberia’s most profound wines, Tempranillo’s range of expressions is as diverse as the appellations in which it is grown. In this in-depth webinar, GuildSomm Staff Writer Bryce Wiatrak will explore all things Tempranillo, including its classic homes of Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Toro, and beyond. Bryce is joined by sommelier and educator Kathleen Thomas, and the two of them lead a short tasting of the following iconic Tempranillo wines:

  • Muga 'Prado Enea Rioja Gran Reserva' 2014
  • Roda 'Roda Rioja Reserva' 2016
  • Tinto Pesquera 'Millenium Ribera del Duero Gran Reserva' 2015
  • Numanthia 'Numanthia Toro' 2014

This is the first in a two-part series on Spanish grapes. Join us for a live webinar on the indigenous white grapes of Spain with Chris Tanghe on April 13.
