SommFoundation: Brooks Winery Harvest Internship

Brooks Winery is looking for motivated, enthusiastic, hard-working wine professionals to join its 2017 harvest team in the Willamette Valley. Interns will enjoy an immersive, educational, and hands-on experience throughout the duration of harvest. This is a paid position that includes on-site group housing.

The vintage will run roughly from September 1 until November 1, but the exact dates will depend on the season. A four-week minimum commitment is required, but priority will be given to candidates that can offer an eight-week commitment. Expectations:

  • Fruit sampling: Learn about site and clonal selections and picking decisions
  • Receiving, sorting, and processing of fruit: Understand sorting for quality wine
  • Fermentation management duties: Punch-downs, lab analysis, and sensory evaluation during fermentation
  • Cleaning and operation of winery equipment: Use of pumps, press, and other crush equipment
  • Barrel work: Cleaning, filling, and topping barrels with wine

Ideal candidates will fit the following qualifications:

  • Sommeliers or wine professionals with buying ability or influence at their establishment
  • Enthusiastic can-do attitude and good sense of humor
  • Passion for wine and a desire to learn more
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Physically fit (strong back, ability to endure long hours of lifting and standing/walking on concrete)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work irregular shifts and overtime hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to speak and understand English
