Fred Merwarth

Fred Merwarth is the head winemaker and vineyard and nursery manager at Herman J. Wiemer Vineyard. He owns the estate along with his wife, Maressa Tosto-Merwarth, and their business partner, Oskar Bynke. Fred studied agricultural business at Cornell University. He began apprenticing with the winery's founder, Hermann J. Wiemer, in 2001 and took over ownership and management in 2007.

Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard is a 130-acre property on Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. The first block of Riesling was planted over 40 years ago. The estate is committed to viticultural thought leadership and experimentation and produces some of the most acclaimed wines of the region.
