Dallas suggestions, and drinking companions for the Advanced Course

Hey All,

Attending Advanced course this weekend and looking for wine/dining suggestions for Dallas.  I'm there Saturday thru Wednesday.  Also bringing some stuff from my collection safely packed in checked baggage ,( don't think the temps will damage)and hoping for companions doing the same, but always happy to share.

  • Not a lot of BYO in Texas as corkage is illegal (if you have liquor) but you can maybe get some fellow somms to look the other way. Places to hit would include Boulevardier, Rapscallion and Veritas all owned by the Anderson Bros. (Brooks and Bradley). Tei-An is epic Japanese and Tei-tei is almost as good. Knife is a great steakhouse with a good list but not in the same league as Pappas. John Tesar does some amazing dry-aged steaks there. FT33, Town Hearth & Flora Street are great higher end places with excellent lists. If you want Texas BBQ, Pecan Lodge, Slow Bone and Lockhart Smokehouse are legit.

For retail, Pogo's is the best in town. They have a great selection of rare stuff and an excellent staff. Ask Lance what's new and exciting.
