We couldn't be more excited about our first-ever Symposium, starting today! Thanks to all of you who traveled to join us, whether navigating traffic through town or flying across the country.
I'd love to have attendees share what they're learning with the broader community throughout the conference. Please tell us your takeaways on this thread!
Great Champagne tasting. We will post the overall results, but my top four were:
1. 2007 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne
2. NV Charles Heidsieck
3. 2006 Dom Ruinart
4. NV Marc Hebrart 1er Cru
My top four Champagnes were:
1- Dom Ruinart
Good lord, who knew I had such a Grand Marque palate!?
This first seminar was an excellent reminder for how challenging it can be to taste Champagne, and for me, it's not fully synonymous with tasting still wines.
It comes with experience
I have GuildSomm Stockholm syndrome
It was fascinating to taste the effect of stems on the perfume of Syrah. Also, the new oak : Brett relationship was a revelation. Thanks for breaking down those chemistries also.
The entire symposium was a fantastic experience! Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen. Also, the discussion of how PH/TA can affect the perception of RS in Riesling was incredibly eye opening for me.
I very much appreciated this event and the hard work the whole Guildsomm team put into this. I do hope this becomes a regular event. For me, the highlight of the symposium (after the chance to see friends and make new ones) was the session on "Winemaking for Sommeliers" and I appreciate Geoff, Jennifer, and David stepping in when Greg Harrington fell ill. I do hope that the slides from that session will be able to be posted, as I think (a) the broader community would benefit from the slides, and (b) since the session was fast-paced, it would help us to review the content on those slides.
What an amazing event. The seminars were all fantastic as was the party! Is there a chance of listing all of the seminar wines for us who didn't get a chance to snap a photo?
I had a wonderful time. Thanks to everybody who helped organize and plan this amazing event. The food, wine, and the amazing people made the trip well worth the time and expense. Cheers to everybody who made this a success and I look forward to attending more events in the years to come. Thanks again!
Can you possibly post here the exact list of Champagnes? I can't read my own notes.
