We are creating a new section with brief overviews of recent vintages in classic regions. Our goal is not to be comprehensive, but to give a short but meaningful objective high-level look at the vintage in a graphical format. Instead of giving a vintage rating, we will rely on the community to vote up or vote down the vintage quality. Our test section is for recent vintages in the Loire. Please let us know what you think, and we will expand to other regions.
Yesss, this is going to be so helpful, thank you!
Welcome to this most anticipated of resources! Thanks, GS.
it might be awesome to have comparative scores/impressions from different sources.
like for the Loire have Jim Budd next to WS and Jancis Robinson. Some of those don’t have scores but maybe a blurb section. Blurb corner.
I like the way that it presents the weather and leave the judement to the readers!
How did you define the flowering, summer and harvest groups? Are you using the known average periods for these stages or did you get reports from growers in each region?
This is great - thanks Geoff and everyone at GuildSomm!
Hi Ben, the reports are a compilation of information taken from the official regional promotional bodies and wine review and weather data. Because weather and events like flowering and harvest aren't uniform across a region, especially a region with many grape varieties, it is meant to be an approximation that best illustrates the important characteristics of the vintage.
