Discovering Italian Wine Online Course (Intro to Italian Wine)

A Complete Introduction To The Wines Of Italy

IWC Level 1 Discovering Italian Wine 3-week ONLINE Course

Discovering Italian Wine is the ideal way to introduce Italian wine to those who are just getting started on their wine journey or who are expanding out of their comfort zone (California, France, etc.) into the sometimes daunting wines of Italy. It is specifically designed for people in wine service or sales (on- or off-premise) to jump-start their careers, but it’s also a great way for consumers and aficionados to get a quick initiation in Italian wine knowledge.

What are the prerequisites? No prior knowledge of Italian wines is required. (That’s why it’s called “Discovering”!) However, students should be familiar with common wine terms and concepts from previous experience or a general wine course.

Discovering Italian Wine is a fun, unpressured course that provides an introduction to Italian wines and grape varieties. There are seven lessons, each presenting a manageable amount of relevant information about Italian wines that are important in export markets. The lessons are:

  1. Setting the Stage
  2. 11 Key Italian Red Grape Varieties
  3. 11 Key Italian White Grape Varieties
  4. 11 Wines Named After Grape Varieties
  5. 11 Red Wines Named After Places
  6. 11 White, Pink, Sparkling, and Dessert Wines Named After Places
  7. 11 Places That Make Multiple Styles of Wine

Discovering Italian Wine is entirely online, so it is available on your own schedule. Each lesson consists of a series of online reading assignments, interactive activities, videos, and quizzes. A timed feedback test is provided at the end of each lesson for students to practice for the exam and assess their understanding of that lesson’s topics. System Requirements: As this course is taught online, students will require access to a computer with the following minimum requirements: Internet Firefox 9, Chrome 10 or equivalent with Javascript enabled. Adobe Reader XI or equivalent. Adobe Flash Player 11. Internet access (broadband recommended).  A webcam is required for the online exam. When the course is over the student arranges with Napa Valley Wine Academy to take the IWC Level 1 Exam online.

Online Proctored Exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions that need to be answered in 40 minutes. Students must score at least 75% to achieve the IWC Level 1 Certificate.
