I have seen a question: Which Beaujolais cru is allowed to use Pinot Noir? I cannot find the answer anywhere. Any idea ??
Where’d the question come from?
I got it from a bundle of questions from another MS candidate. Could it possibly be a mistake ?
According to the compendium (which I’m sure you saw), it’s not allowed in the Crus, but is allowed in straight AOP Beaujolais. Could the question just have been worded wrong?
Can be! Or maybe the correct answer would be - No cru is allowed. And yes, I did check all of them on the compendium :)
Tricksy! Also interesting to learn that they plant Melon there, had no idea!
I like to look at the AOC documents themselves in these cases. You can find them linked in the compendium on this site; for example, here is the one for St Amour https://www.guildsomm.com/webupload/AOCs/CDC_Saint-Amour.pdf?Redirected=true
The answer appears to be that none of the 10 Beaujolais Cru AOCs allow Pinot Noir in the encepagement.
Nor in the assemblage.
