In the latest GuildSomm podcast, host MS  interviews Annie Shi of King and Jupiter restaurants in New York City about her wine program philosophy. Annie discusses key considerations for bottle lists and by-the-glass offerings, how she thinks about pricing, creativity in spirits selection, and the importance of distributor relationships.

Annie Shi opened King in 2016 and Jupiter in 2022 with her partners, Claire de Boer and Jess Shadbolt. She is the beverage director at both restaurants. Prior to opening King, Annie was an associate with J.P. Morgan in New York and London. She is an alum of the James Beard Foundation Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership program and was listed in the 2019 Forbes 30 Under 30 list.

Annie Shi

Annie Shi is a founder and partner of New York City restaurants King and Jupiter. King is an intimate southern French and Italian restaurant in Soho, and Jupiter is a new Italian restaurant in Rockefeller Center focused on pasta. Annie is the beverage director at both restaurants. 

Annie graduated from Yale University and worked for J.P. Morgan in New York and London. While working in London, she met Claire de Boer and Jess Shadbolt, chefs and co-founders of King and Jupiter. In addition to her work with the restaurants, Annie has written for publications including Food & Wine, Grubstreet, and The Strategist, and she has been a speaker at Harvard Business School and on Heritage Radio's Grapenation.
