N. California winemaker community websites

Good evening everyone, does anybody have a recommendation for community based websites on growing/winemaking? Looking for something that's interactive like Guildsomm with message boards and other useful information. I have a family member that purchased a small vineyard planted to Cab Sauv and wanting to dive in head first but has no formal training. Looking to help out as much as I can. Thank you in advance!

  • Hi! As far as I know, there isn't anything like this, but most of the individual regions have membership groups that meet in-person. If you let me know the region that the vineyard is in, I can try to point you in the right direction. The winegrowing communities in Northern California tend to be very friendly and helpful and cultivating relationships within the local area is invaluable.

UC Davis has some good online resources in their "industry info" section and the V&E section at the bookstore there has some good practical, introductory resources on grape growing.

Winemakers and grape growers tend to be a bit old school! Word of mouth is usually the best way to go.

  • Thank you Jennifer! His plantings are in El Dorado. I’ll pass along the UC Davis information Grinning

  • Information on the El Dorado Grape Growers Association can be found here
