What to charge for teaching wine course?

I am in the process of negotiating a PT teaching gig with a local wine school in Toronto.  The job is mine but I have been asked to come back with my rate.  I'm at a loss for what to charge - its a once a week class of about 2 hours - the course covers general wine material.  I have done dinners in the past where I charge based on number of people and level of intensity of materials to cover.  What would be appropriate?  Any guidance is so appreciated!

  • I think an important thing to take in to consideration is how much preparation time you'll need to devote to the class. Unless all of the material is already prepared and all you need to do is talk for two hours each week, I would make sure that you can either charge for your preparation time or that you build that time into your rate.
