Hi! I passed the Intro Course almost 3 years ago. Wow time flies. Since then I have been working at a fine dining restaurant and a wine bar helping with the wine program, meeting with reps, buying wine, and of course studying wine on my own time. I love Doing tastings with friends, attending the occasional Master Class, and practicing deductive tasting when I can..... So, I decided not to pursue the Certified level as I didn’t feel I needed it at my current work position. With a sudden change of plans I do now feel I need to take it. Luckily I am within 3 years still...But just barely... I have until July to sit for the Certified.
There are only 2 deductive tasting workshops before then (Why so few?)
...I am well versed in service elements of the test and can study hard for the Theoretical, but IS 3 MONTHES ENOUGH TIME???
Please- any input is appreciated! Thank you
3 Months, with practice, can be enough, assuming you've already been honing the skills for service and feel comfortable studying. You should be studying ~1hr per day for Certified. I set a goal of 10hrs/week, with blind tastings 3x week, and everyday for the last 3 weeks. This is much easier with a study group/blind tasting group.
Thank you for your insight. I am lacking a study group or anyone who lives close to me who knows the Deductive process... also I live in Florida and the closest Deductive tasting workshop is in May in Houston. Did you take the workshop?
Also- any tips on how to narrow down the theoretical study info? For example do I need to print and memorize ALL of the study guides on Guild Somm? The CMS resources guide has limited theory prep recommendations other than the books which I’ve read a few so far.
Julia, I shot you an email (based on your listed email in profile) with some info/attachments to help you narrow your studies etc.... Just in case it ended up spam etc... Best of luck!
could you pass that email along to me as well? thanks!
would it be possible to get that list aswell? Thank you!
Hey man can I get one too? please!
I may be mistaken, but after three years elapsed time I believe you must retake the intro. Anyone?
I would love this info as well, please (and thank you).
Yes, unless you have a Master vouch for you, then it can be extended to 5. Because Master, lol.
Would like some info too?taking certified 3rd time in june, have taken certified old and newer format, newer format much harder!
Hi Julia, MS Geoff Kruth is also hosting a blind tasting seminar (with a focus on deductive tasting) in New Orleans on Monday. I think this would help fill the gap you're looking for if you're able to make the trip! www.guildsomm.com/.../
if possible, I would love an email, too. I’m studying in central jersey so it’s quite lonely in terms of guidance and people to study with
