Looking for advice...
I have signed up to retake the Certified exam in December in NYC. Blind Tasting was the portion that I failed when I last took the exam. I live in Connecticut and am having trouble finding people who want to be involved in a tasting group.
Do you think I can effectively practice blind tasting on my own? If so, please let me know how I should go about it.
Effectively, perhaps. Cost effective? Probably not. It also is of great benefit to taste wines with other to learn how to effectively blind taste wines. If you live in Connecticut, is it feasible to go to NYC once a week for a tasting group? There has to be a handful of people in the same position as you. Find and great wine bar and they will almost certainly pour a testable flight for you. If you can find a group of 5 that would potentially be 6 opportunities to practice on. Non blind is very important as well and I would imagine there are daily tastings in the city. Plus, there is a great joy in accomplishing this feat and sharing it with others who contributed to your success along the way.
Yes there is definitely way to blind taste on your own. I do it myself all the time, but it will cost you some money to do this. Please see this link:
Good luck. If you have any questions please let me know.
Daniel - thanks so much for the advice! Unfortunately going into NYC weekly isn't feasible, but I have managed to find a wine bar in CT that will pour testable flights.
All the best to you.
My wife and I are signed up to take the certified in December as well. We live in West Hartford, CT. Let us know if you'd be interested in creating a tasting group!
I'm taking the exam in September and I'm based in Rye, NY. Would love to put something together if you were close!
Hi Vishwas - yes definitely interested! Please send me your email address. Thanks
Hi Abigail - I'm now all set with tasting groups. Thank you for the offer though and good luck with your studies!
