Hunter Valley's magic last post by Andrew Wiese and inderpal singh. Thanks gents! For me Hunter Semillon is such a unique expression in the wine world and also a great inexpensive way to contribute to your cellar.
This week: Russian River Valley
What makes this AVA special? What varieties is it known for? Name 3 producers.
Interesting questions... What makes Russian River Valley special? I'd say two things: (1) it is very foggy (perhaps the most foggy of all of the Sonoma County AVAs) and chilly (though perhaps not the chilliest, as the Sonoma Coast AVA is probably a bit chillier, given the fact that it nuzzles the Pacific Ocean); and (2) within the Russian River Valley AVA is the Green Valley sub-AVA, home to some well-known producers, including (here's your three)...Iron Horse Vineyards, Marimar Estate, and DeLoach. For varieties, this AVA is known for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, though above the fog line, some producers are taking a shot with Zinfandel and Syrah.
Nuzzles the pacific, I like that
